Howdy Newerfag![edit]

Magnus, the red[edit]

  • Looked at his powers as you suggested, i still think he got nerfed hard. Getting a self-heal is nice, paying for it with the most unique ability for your whole faction (Reroll invul saves of 1) is very costly. More spells and a fourth spell (known, not casted) for no longer rerolling 1's to wound? Again sounds like a bad trade to me. The new peril aura and his own no-peril rule seem not worthy of a 30pts increase. Which (imho) are things people might want to know before (or after) they read your advertisement in his entry.
  • that beeing said most of his Index age entries where highly sceptical and i was one of his few defenders in early 8e... Funny how they all vanished in the transition...
  • Obviously you do not want any talk about that, seeing how you just straight up deleted the bullet point with his (bad) fixed WL trait (wasnt that your own to begin with ? O.o), or any comparision to Morty/Roboute or with his crunch before the codex.
  • That no one plays any recruits around you (or in LVO) anymore is not of any significance. Enough that he still cannot eat 30 a turn (unlike Morty). Also people still play them around me, so your point is double invalid :D
  • Finally if he still is viable or not, time will tell, no one can say that on day -1, but that he got nerfed (both in points and crunch) is a fact, just put his index rules and point cost beside the codex ones and compare. That Roboute and Mortarion are still untouched? Also a fact.

    • That ability was OP as all hell, and having a fourth spell allows for an element of unpredictability.
    • No, that bullet point was not my own. I do not know why you assumed that. I don't care whether or not you defended him in the index,
    • Just look at the IG tactics- Conscripts are actively worse than regular Guardsmen in every possible way now. Whether other people play them or not is irrelevant, they still suck.
    • Morty, Girlyman, and Magnus all have entirely different roles for their armies in the first place (psychic master, beatstick, and buff aura user, respectively) and therefore should not actually be compared to each other, in the index or anywhere else. Their similarities start and end with their Lord of War slot.
    • Given that the codex hasn't even been released yet, I will wait until the Codex actually comes out before jumping to conclusions of doom and gloom as you have. --Newerfag (talk) 00:28, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply and your points are valid, but i have to reply:

  • It doesnt matter if recruits are trash can garbage level, because it doesn't matter if people field recruits, guardsman, boyz, tzaangors or the horrificly nerfed brimstones. The point is Morty chews through them in a single turn on the charge and Magnus doesnt. Rolewise both are beatsticks and knightkillers, which they both do very well, but one of them is a horde eater in addition that also still rerolls 1's to wound, while both cost almost the same now. I cant see psychic master as Magnus battlefield role per se, as you do not pay 445 pts for a guy that gets shot from across the table with lascannons every turn, so he castes three measly buffs. Ahriman does this way cheaper and way more safe. So he casts a bunch of buffs on himself to become a better beatstick and gives some unlucky dudes MWs. Imo pretty much the same as Mortarion.
  • All three are Primarchs and LoW's are they not? 30k Primarchs also differ wildly in power and battlefield role, still they get compared to each other.
  • As i said it is day -1 for the codex. But there are early, printed versions over YT like all other codices before and in all previous cases: what they got, is what we got too. So writing the negative differences down now, seems adequate. People can read both and form their own opinion (See scarab Occult Terminators or Obliterators) and changes can easily be made if the actual, store-sold codex contains any differences.
  • also im not all doom and gloom... Tzaangors, Webway Infiltration and the DP WL seem AMAZING and will probably keep Magnus in play too, for 1ksons, nerfs or not. Hell with their buffs and the new, bigger focus on an alpha strike, even Scarabs might become good now.

Still rude to just delete my content instead of just adding that you (strongly) disagree and believe Magnus is greater than ever before. Also please readd his WL trait PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW THE TRUTH! Styxwalker (talk) 01:15, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

      • You do realize you can have someone else cast those buffs on Magnus so he doesn't have to do so himself, right? What are you, short on psykers? And just because they can be compared doesn't mean the comparisons are valid. Magnus should be focusing on big targets, and unlike Morty he actually gives support to his goons beyond his WT instead of just producing a debuff aura. His WT has already been mentioned, and people are free to draw their own conclusions without your bitching about how he didn't get the stupidly OP trait. Because quite bluntly, your opinion was nothing but complaining without a single piece of actual advice on how to use Magnus. With defenders like you, who needs detractors?--Newerfag (talk) 07:46, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
