CODEX: ANGELS OF DEATH

Why play Angels of Death?[edit]

For the pure funzies. It represents the Space Marines from an alternate setting in which the Emperor did not create more legions due to the first being phenomenally successful. The setting also makes the Imperium better off, with nothing like the Horus Heresy to stifle their progress. As a result, the Angels of Death number in the hundreds of millions (what would be the combined sum of all 20 legions).

Army Rules[edit]

Unless otherwise specified, the following abilities described below are common to all ADEPTUS ASTARTES units:

  • Know No Fear: Each time a Battle-shock test is taken for this unit, you may re-roll the result and ignore any or all modifiers.
  • Tactical Supremacy: Units with this ability are eligible to shoot and declare a charge in a turn in which they Advanced or Fell Back.

Stratagems[edit]

  • ARMOUR OF CONTEMPT (1 CP) - Battle Tactic Stratagem
When: Your opponent’s Shooting phase or the Fight phase, just after an enemy unit has selected its targets.
Target: One ADEPTUS ASTARTES unit from your army that was selected as the target of one or more of the attacking unit’s attacks.
Effect: Until the end of the phase, each time an attack targets your unit, worsen the Armour Penetration characteristic of that attack by 1.
  • ONLY IN DEATH DOES DUTY END (2 CP) - Epic Deed Stratagem
When: Fight phase, just after an enemy unit has selected its targets.
Target: One ADEPTUS ASTARTES unit from your army that was selected as the target of one or more of the attacking unit’s attacks.
Effect: Until the end of the phase, each time a model in your unit is destroyed, if that model has not fought this phase, do not remove it from play. The destroyed model can fight after the attacking model’s unit has finished making its attacks, and is then removed from play.
  • HONOUR THE LEGION (1 CP) - Battle Tactic Stratagem
When: Fight phase.
Target: One ADEPTUS ASTARTES unit from your army.
Effect: Until the end of the phase, melee weapons equipped by models in your unit have the LANCE ability. If your unit is within range of an objective marker, until the end of the phase, improve the Armour Penetration characteristic of such weapons by 1 as well.
  • STORM OF FIRE (X CP) - Battle Tactic Stratagem
When: Your Shooting phase.
Target: One ADEPTUS ASTARTES unit from your army.
Effect: Until the end of the phase, ranged weapons equipped by models in your unit have the IGNORES COVER ability. If your unit is within range of an objective marker, until the end of the phase, improve the Armour Penetration characteristic of such weapons by 1 as well.
  • SQUAD TACTICS (1 CP) - Strategic Ploy Stratagem
When: Your opponent’s Movement phase, just after an enemy unit ends a Normal, Advance or Fall Back move.
Target: One ADEPTUS ASTARTES INFANTRY or ADEPTUS ASTARTES MOUNTED unit from your army that is within 9" of the enemy unit that just ended that move.
Effect: Your unit can make a Normal move of up to D6", or a Normal move of up to 6" instead if it is within range of an objective marker.
Restrictions: You cannot select a unit that is within Engagement Range of one or more enemy units.

Once per battle round, one unit from your army with this ability can be targeted by a Stratagem for 0CP, even if another unit from your army has already been targeted by that Stratagem this phase.

Once per battle, at the start of the Fight phase, this model can use this ability. If it does, until the end of the phase, add 3 to the Attacks characteristic of melee weapons equipped by this model and those weapons have the Devastating Wounds ability.

Once per battle round, one unit from your army with this ability can be targeted by a Stratagem for 0CP, even if another unit from your army has already been targeted by that Stratagem this phase.

After both players have deployed their armies and determined who has the first turn, if your army includes one or more models with this ability, you can select up to three friendly ADEPTUS ASTARTES PHOBOS or ADEPTUS ASTARTES SCOUT SQUAD units and redeploy all of those units. When doing so, any of those units can be placed into Strategic Reserves, regardless of how many units are already in Strategic Reserves.
