Talk:Angels of Absolution
War of Secrets edit
What a hot mess of convoluted rubbish that book was... It was as if Phil Kelly purposefully tried to squeeze as many subplots as he could to see if he could get away with it. I wouldn't have minded a book about the Primaris Marines integrating into the Dark Angels and having to come to terms with how far they would go in the Hunt. But to actually go as far as dealing with Xenos over and above dealing with their own successors is a ridiculous stretch. I appreciate that the Tau were used to provide deniability but the plague was secondary to the issue of the Fallen. Zaeroph is even content to let the plague run its course and burn itself out on Saltire Vex without their intervention. If the Interrogator Chaplain had only coordinated with Moddren then the entire issue would have been resolved with no need to involve the Tau at all, and wouldn't have needed to get the Primaris Marines involved either if they were considered so untrustworthy. Stupid
The Primaris Marines also do some spectacular switcharoo that I am still trying to figure out, since they go from overwriting their mind-wipes using the Belisarian Furnace and remembering everything they've been exposed to, and swearing to keep the fires of the secret burning and eventually uncover the conspiracy at the root of the chapter; to suddenly being pleased with themselves that they finally get the recognition they deserve after being initiated into the new "Primaris Circle". Stupid
It's clear that GW (or Phil) are trying to set up some great big plot arc somewhere down the line involving conflict somewhere, either with some schism within the Chapter between Primaris and Originals, or within the Unforgiven as a whole about how stupid they're behaving. Not to mention the whole Tau arc involving whatever they claim is forming in the Warp that they're so afraid of. But trying to provide so many plot hooks in one novel just made it look like a mess. Am I missing something critical here? -Dark Angel 2020 (talk) 08:49, 9 August 2019 (UTC)
- There's a lot I'd say you're missing from here, like how suddenly Kroot become stronger than Primaris Marines who don't have their Furnace activated, which would put Kroot somewhere around Custodes in terms of strength, or how the Tau are making super-soldiers capable of landing shots that would make Hawkeye call bullshit (the no-scope-no-look-pistol-headshot through the hole in the Ghostkeel was such horseshit) or how the Tau can apparently survive an orbital bombardment that nearly kills Marines not hit by it (while having a massive hole in their armour that exposes them to it), or how a single Ghostkeel can solo a fortress monastery, or how there's that whole subplot where the Tau decide they have to kill everyone else to destroy that god that Kelly is trying to push forward. How the Tau come to this conclusion in particular is something that only makes sense in a fever dream. The whole book is just one big massive pile of shit that has no clue where it's going or what it should do when it gets there, and it also has the issue of turning the Dark Angels into outright traitors. There's plenty of instances where they'll skirt the line between what is and isn't traitorous behaviour, in this novel however there's no doubt about them being traitors. -- Triacom (talk) 13:59, 9 August 2019 (UTC)
- So we're agreed that Phil is probably smoking something. --Dark Angel 2020 (talk) 15:39, 9 August 2019 (UTC)
