Alternate Rules
(because I don't like the ones you guys came up with)
Hai everyone, this is the same person as in the original thread who thinks the rage/lol method of scoring is just a silly mind game with very little depth.
I propose an alternative rule system:
There are 10 threads and it is a strictly 1v1 system, though someone else could extend it later.
Each player may play as many cards per turn as he wants, provided he can. Each player may only create one thread per turn and may not post in a thread he created that turn. Each player has a maximum hand size of 5 and draws 2 cards per turn (up to the maximum).
The OP card is always separate from all the replies and only the OP the 5 most recent replies are shown and can have their effects used. The rest are omitted (hidden under the OP or something). Special OP cards have win and lose conditions, and additional thread effects. (they can also be used as normal memes in reply to other memes)
LOL is used to play cards. You may only play cards equal to the sum of all your non-omitted posts in a thread plus 1. You may always play a card of LOL 1.
RAGE is a control system. You may play a card only if it is equal or greater in rage than the highest rage on a non-omitted meme (including OP).
SAGE (face down) memes may be played avoiding the RAGE control system but provide no LOL or RAGE. If a thread is SAGE'd 3 times in a row, the OP loses the thread. Each player can SAGE a thread once per turn.
The game still revolves around thread control but winning a thread will now be based on card control. The winner of each thread will be determined by conditions on OP cards.
For example, U LAFF U LOSE as an OP would have high LOL as a win condition and RAGE as a lose condition. If the combined LOL of all non-omitted cards in the thread exceeds a number, say 15, the OP wins the thread. If the thread's RAGE exceeds a number, say... 10, the OP loses the thread. (it could be the other way around in other cards) After 3 replies (and all subsequent replies, if the combined LOL of all non-omitted replies to U LAFF U LOSE is below 7, the OP loses the thread.
Additional things to think about: Locked threads, Stickied threads, tripfagging, flooding, etc.
The main idea is to move away from just a one dimensional mind game to a more strategic game, where card abilities will affect the effectiveness of other cards and COMBOS will be highly effective.
- One major problem provided you look past the fact that this is mostly suposed to be just a joke game to have some fun with: If theres no limit on how many cards you can play in your turn (up to your hand size of 5) then you can just dump your hand into a thread and win it right away. In fact this seems to be the dominent strategy for this ruleset because it gives your opponent no chance to counter and cards already in the thread will get pushed out of play by the 5 card limit. Also you can sage a thread into oblivion instantly.
You are right, that is a problem. I was just thinking that if players drew each turn but could not play more than one card per turn, they would end up having a very large hand.
- I'm thinking you get 1 action a turn: OP, Post (up to a set number of cards), Sage, or Lurk (Draw extra cards)
This seems okay, as long as the player gets to play at least 2 cards per turn, because honestly, discarding cards because you have too many and can't play any is shit.
- My only problem with this is it seems to veer less towards 'a game' and more towards 'a simulation.' While both are fun in their own right, a card game should not a simulation game be, and the current rules for the game support a very unique card game unlike any other.
It does more simulating probably because I used more terms used on the boards. In any case, I just thought that a game with more strategic complexity than rock paper scissors would be good. By the way, rock paper scissors is a deep game.
Yup
So after some playtesting we refined the rules a bit. More changes coming along with my card collection.
