Sludge Barge
- – Necromunda Apocrypha description
Sludge Barges are Necromundan maritime vessels that ply Hive Primus' Underhive seas that are often less 'sea' and more 'toxic toilet sewage'. These medium-sized boats are built in pursuit of the precious diamond-like eyes of giant Sump Spiders.
It is one of the two "custom" watercraft that has rules, with the other being the Scrap Skiff. Why GW never bothered in giving us a proper model, we have no ideal, although it can be argued that they are encouraging us to make a Your Dudes of post-apocalyptic boats. All we know is that both boats are the first marine-exclusive vehicles with actual rules that GW bothered to make in decades.
Any faction from Necromunda can technically take them, yes, even murderhobos like House Cawdor, Ash Waste Nomads and Corpse Grinder Cults can take them.
Overview[edit]
These purpose-built vessels encompass a myriad of boats, ships and scows, as well as being called many other names such as, Spiderhaulers, Bilgerunners and Harpooners. Some Sludge Barges are capable of ramming other ships or creatures due to their bigger size and can be equipped with a variety of equipment, such as such as Autoguns, Grenade Launchers, Web Gun, Harpoon Launcher, Heavy Stubbers, Flare Launchers, body spikes and booby-trapped fuel tanks.
Crunch[edit]
On the tabletop, both the Sludge Barge and Scrap Skiff have the new Waterborne special rule which effectively represents a new kind of locomotion — barges drift D6″ forward when activated, while skiffs move at D3.
The Sludge Barge being the bigger of the two boats, is a lot more expensive, costing around 165 creds, which is roughly equivalent to a Heavy Vehicle, with M6, T7/6/6 and 5 Hull Points. Its weapon choices are fairly vanilla, with the notable exception of Web Gun access. Likewise, being big also come with some benefits. The barge can take a transport bed upgrade, but the skiff cannot — making the latter an even more risky option for transporting troops.
Both vehicles are limited to a select list of upgrades, but have open access to weapons and vehicle wargear from the Trading Post.
