Skalvian Explorator

One part Lunar rover, one part weaponised crane game.

A pretty neat-looking Squat vehicle first unveiled on 16th of October 2023, the Skalvian Explorator is a mining vehicle that looks like it got ripped straight out of a Lego Mars set or a Lunar rover.

Overview

Squats rarely use vehicles such as the Cargo-8 Ridgehaulers when it comes to offshore excavation, as the Ridgehauler is deemed too vulnerable to the various hazards found outside of Necromunda. So the Ironhead Squat Prospectors use their own vehicles such as the Skalvian Explorator to do the job.

More like an armoured troop transport than a normal civilian mining vehicle, the Skalvian Explorator, whilst large, is still small enough to fit into smallish caverns where typically larger mining vehicles could not. Its comparatively squat (Pun not intended) superstructure allows it to squeeze through low-hanging obstacles to get to a target for excavation.

Because it is an enclosed vehicle and heavily armoured and reinforced to boot, the Skalvian Explorator are nearly impervious to small-arms fire and the Explorators' Ironhead Claw can destroy obstacles or flimsy structures without damaging the vehicles. They also have a transport bed along either side of their hull and two weapon hardpoints to mount Ironhead Flamers and Ironhead Heavy Stubbers.

Crunch

Crunchwise, the fluff is pretty true to the crunch. These things are a tough nut to crack. Nearly impervious to small-arms fire with its Toughness of 7, which is ramped up to a formidable 9 against shots to the front – and relatively rapid with a 6” Move. It is also a decent troop transport, being able to carry several Squats at once, albeit unprotected. Its weapons are also decent, with its Ironhead Claw and Flamer making it one of the few vehicles that could handle itself in close-combat. Overall, a pretty formidable troop transport in Necromunda.
