Lone-spear
Lone-spears are Kroot who do not thrive in Farstalker Kinbands and instead serve as enemy trackers and relay vital intelligence, from atop Kalamandras, when the species go to war. They are notable for being the first Kroot unit that does not ride on a degenerate derivative of their own kin.
Overview[edit]
The reason for their disposition varies between the Lone-spears, as some are NEETs, disgraced warriors, or disaffected mercenaries. All are expert hunters, though, who prefer to be in the company of beasts, rather than their fellow Kroot.
This leads them to ride Kalamandras when their species goes to war, where they can lead Kroot Hounds into battle and aid in capturing far-flung objectives. The Lone-spears are also armed with either Kroot Long Guns for long-ranged encounters or a Kroot Spear-thrower armed with regular Hunting Javelins and explosive-tipped Javelins for close-ranged combat, which allow them to act as snipers or destroyers of armoured targets respectively.
Regardless, their attacks will serve as guiding beacons for the Lone-spears' fellow Kroots and aid in marking out priority targets or guiding the species to their foes.
Crunch[edit]
On 10th Edition, these guys are Kroot riding a decidedly non-Kroot dinosaur. Alongside their pet's S5 AP-1 bites, you have the option between either a sniper rifle and the combo of a spear that's slightly stronger than a knife in melee and an explosive-tipped spear that can demolish hordes and dent light tanks, either one allowing them to skitter 6" after shooting to avoid any return fire. While they removed the glorious Tetra, this is the closest alternative we got allowing you to mark an enemy to shoot and then let other Kroot units re-roll to hit for the rest of the turn.
