Lava Barge
A Lava Barge is a type of seacraft that is, as its name implies, meant to sail across extreme bodies of liquid like molten lava rather than water. They first appeared in Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun on the level No Truth In Flesh as a sort of level platform device.
Overview[edit]
Lava Barges are primarily civilian maritime vessels that is used to transport their occupants safely across a sea of molten rock and metal. They resemble a floating METAL BOX like real world barges, but is made with the mother of a heat-resistant materials.
They are found on Forge Worlds and as such, the Adeptus Mechanicus have a shit ton of them circulating through the furnaces of their mass industries. An example of such a boat could be found on Graia. This is not to say that Forge Worlds own exclusive rights to them. Any planet in the Imperium that is covered in lava would most likely have these boats sailing around.
These boats are all automated with a preset sail route. They kind of act like a horizontal elevator in a sense. The boat's autopilot consist of a simple cogitator with a 'on' switch that can be turned to activate the boat's pre-programmed routes. They are pretty small and could only carry a few passengers and like most things in the Mechanicus, they lack basic OSHA compliance since these barges have no hand-railings to prevent an accidental slip into a bath of hot stuff.
