January 2017, GW decided that for once they'd pay attention to the oft-left behind Tzeentch. And they did so in the glorious event known as Tzaanuary, where they released Battletome: Disciples of Tzeentch, and fleshed out the Squid's own mortal followers, the Arcanites, alongside the daemons.

History[edit]

As Sigmar slowly began to claw back control of the mortal realms, cities began to re-emerge. And with cities, comes good old-fashioned politics, and all the deceit and backstabbing that comes with it. This was practically a "Come In" sign for Tzeentch, who sent out his minion The Changeling to seed Arcanite Cults throughout these cities. Scribes, librarians, scholars, sorcerers, politicians; all of these joined the Arcanites. So did the Tzaangors, who are basically Tzeentch Beastmen. With fell magics, these so-called nerds gained the ability to become absolutely ripped. Seriously, look at the Kairic Acolyte models. It's hilarious that followers of the God of Nerds have Khorne-tier abs.

Forces of the Arcanites[edit]

  • Curslings: Chaos' attempt to copy the success of Vilitch the Curseling. Powerful warriors are merged with unholy entities (we don't know if they're humans like the real Vilitch was) that boast equally incredible magical powers. They happen to love stealing spells from their enemies and redirecting them.
  • Gaunt Summoners: Faceless Cenobites usually sequestered in Tzeentch's towers or under Archaon's thrall. Very powerful summoners.
  • Magisters: The generic mages of the Arcanites, which means that they're gonna be slinging a lot of shit.
  • Ogroid Thaumaturges: While the Ogroids were always considered part of the forces of Chaos, some of these giant not-Minotaurs did develop some magical gifts that made them worth keeping.
  • Tzaangors: Because we needed to reintroduce god-aligned Beastmen, and they already had kits from 40K. Curiously, these and the Slaangors from the Hedonites of Slaanesh would remain after 3E, where GW decided to squat the remainder of the Beasts of Chaos.
  • Kairic Acolytes: The basic cultists, each one just as capable a warrior as they are a mage.
